'Tis the Season

I am so so happy that it is December once again.  We planned over a month ago that we would put up our tree on December 1st and I could hardly wait.  I remember, as a kid, thinking that Christmastime was the most magical time of the year.  I want very much for Imogen and Ezra to enjoy our family traditions and accumulate warm memories of our Christmases together.

This year we decided to kick the holiday season off right by making sugar cookies and homemade hot chocolate to enjoy while we listened to holiday music and decorated our tree.  I even made homemade whipped cream for our hot chocolate and we sprinkled sprinkles on top, because you can never get too much sugar in your hot chocolate.  You can tell Ezra agrees.  See his face?  He's high on sugar.

My favorite was the chocolate topped cookie with sprinkles.  I NEED to make more of those.

And, way better than stirring a hot cocoa mix in milk, is melting nice quality chocolate instead.

If you're known to be a messy eater/drinker, straws work too.  How do you like Ezra's festive shirt?

Ezra doesn't mess around; he always eats the cookies frosting-side first.

Imogen helped Daddy untangle the lights and wrap them around the tree.

And then she climbed under it to pretend that she was a cat.  Since moving to Riyadh, she's come to expect the inevitable reality that there is a cat in every bush, tree, of trash can.  Playing "kitty cat" is a popular pass time in our house.

Ezra got to hang his own two ornaments.  I always looking forward to seeing which ornaments Brandon has chosen for me and the kids each year.  We'll have to wait until Christmas Eve to find out.

Imogen put together her Lego Snowman, the ornament Brandon gave her two years ago.

Ezra was very proud of helping to hang the ornaments.  We waited until he wasn't looking to redistribute some of them to higher branches.

And, for at least one more year, Imogen doesn't have to fight with Ezra over the privilege of placing the star on top of the tree.

Then came the arduous task of finding the bad bulb on the string of lights.

Finally, it was time to turn off the lights and admire our work.

Wishing you a very merry start to the holiday season!
